6-10-12. We did so much research on above ground pools before buying the Intex Metal pool 16 by 48. We decided to try a "tester" pool for a summer or two before investing more money into something more permanent. We read tons of pool forums and advice from seasoned pool members.We bought our pool for $399 in May. Probably should have got one during the winter and prices would have been cheaper. We really wanted the saltwater system...but decided to just use the pump that came with the Intex pool.First off....the pool prep was NOT EASY. Don't let anybody lie to you. Also, when you buy a pool package...that is NOT all you have to buy.Okay, the pool prep. Woo, my hubby was mad at me. I told him it would be simple. No, it wasn't. I guess it would be if you lived on completely level ground with no rocks, but naturally, we don't. So on a nice 90 degree.. hot as heck day, we made our circle outline (with spray paint) with an extra 2 inches. Then we rented a sod cutter for 60 buck (for 4 hrs)and hubby started tearing the circle up. We rushed as quick as we could and he returned the equipment before time ran out (we live about 45 minutes away from the home store)Even though the intex directions say NOT to use sand under your pool...we figured out quick that we would need some sand under that liner (and all the pool people said sand is a must...or some kind of Styrofoam). So we could have had some delivered but instead went to buy it in the bags. That was it would be easier for us to move the sand without buying a wheelbarrow and having tons of sand dumped in our front yard. We found some play sand on sale and bought 50 bags. It was $95 for all 50. We could only haul 25 bags at a time. Hubby was way to scared of popping his tires. (at this point he wasn't even talking to me b/c of the "extra" expense, time, travel, gas, and his weekend ruined)Back to the circle. We tried to level. We watched youtube video on the best way to do this. We did the 2X4 thing everybody recommends. We dug some, then checked. Dug again, and checked. After several hours and hubby calling a few friends over....he declared that it was as level as it was getting. Now, the directions at this point recommend laying down some "weed guard" Yeah, I don't think so. I ran to the store and bought a bunch of newspapers. Laid them all down in the circle and sprayed some water on them to keep them in place. Then we started dumping the sand out in spots. Easy enough. I'm glad we got the bags. We worked around and around. Then the 2x4 method was used again. I thought it looked a little "OFF" but hubby told me no. I sprayed the sand. Then hubby had to run to the store again to buy one of those stamper things (it smashes the sand or dirt down real good)We finally laid the blue tarp down that Intex supplies with the pool package. Then we all carried the liner and laid it down in the middle of the tarp. Installing all the poles and things were very easy and went very quick. I am glad we watched a youtube video of that beforehand. Pay careful attention to the poles, the rope, and that grey strap. It's important the poles are inside both before you put water in. Also make sure the drain at the bottom of your liner is closed!!!!!!! Also, the very first thing I would put together is your ladder. My ladder is pure crap. Even with all the things tight and everything...it still wobbles. I hate it.It was almost done. We had a pool. We went around and rechecked everything atleast 15 times to make sure things were good. We started the water hose. We have well water so we knew it would take several days to fill up. As the water started to come in the pool....I got in and made sure to push, pull, and smooth out any wrinkles in the bottom of the liner. This is important b/c after you get an inch or so...it's hard to do. Having a smooth bottom makes cleaning the pool easier later on. We let the water fill for a few hours.....and we would walk around the pool readjusting the poles to make sure they stay straight. We cut the water off. The next day we started again. Eventually the water made it to the first hole and my hubby installed the pump and hoses. It was pretty easy to do. We checked that everything was sealed and working.Now the real work begins. I read the pool forums and how to care for a pool the right way without investing in all those pool chemicals. I invested in a very good chemical testing kit...not those strips. Our pool has been up a little over 3 weeks. My pool sparkles. I spend about 10-20 minutes a day checking the levels, treating it, and cleaning it. Hubby doesn't even mess with the pool at all. He hates swimming.I have 2 teenagers. So far, they love it and all their friends love it. It has easily held 7 of them in there. Oh yeah....I did buy a very small wading pool. It's outside the big pool so the kids can wash their feet off before they get in. It helps keep the dirt down.1/28/13-Thought I would give an update. It's winter here in Ohio and our pool is still up. I guess over the summer, it settled some on one side some. It's annoying to look at (but hubby says there is no way he's fixing it) It is still standing. I battled with cleaning the pool all summer. It wasn't hard, but it was time consuming. I used the same 2 filters all summer long. All I did was rinse them off every couple of days with a sprayer off my water hose. We did end up investing in a better vacuum for the pool. You should be warned...with this pool, you need a special adapter for the a vacuum to work on the pump. I just used this for $2 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HMA8YY/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00 when It came in, I sawed a little off the one end to fit it in the hole. It worked prefect. I figured out, Ace hardware is a good place for pool products.Now for our winter storage. We researched (well I did) and the pool forum advised that it's best to drain the water down to the last hole on your pool. Then remove all the pumps and stuff for the winter. That's what we did. Drained the water pass the last hole enough to remove the pump. We cleaned them out very good and stored them in our basement. We put duct tape over the holes. Then we bought a pool cover and put that over the pool and tighten it. I'm not sure if that's the correct way to do things, but my pool cover (which I bought 2 sizes to big) ended up sagging in the middle to the water level. It probably would have been better to leave the water filled, then put the cover on. We should have just protected and wrapped the pumps and such for the winter instead of removing the water.Anyway, when the summer comes again....I don't have much water in the pool, so it should be easy to clean out. I do go outside and check the metal poles. They seem to be fine. I haven't done much else to the pool this winter. I just adjust the pool cover and make sure it is on good.

I love the new intex ultra frame pool. We upgraded from the 15 round standard intex pool which we had for 4 years. I purchased the pool package that came with saltwater chlorinator and pump. The setup and install took me about 45 min. This pool is much stronger than the standard intex pool. The stronger pump that came with the package also helps out! I highly recommend using saltwater. Overall for the price and ease of setup this is a great buy.

I bought the 24 x 52 size pool, same set-up. I have had the pool for 3 summers. I left the pool up all year round, have never taken it down. I live in Arkansas so the weather does get below 32 degrees here at times. The water has never frozen solid in the pool and I havent experenced any problems with the liner.HOWEVER, I just want to warn you, at the end of this summer, I noticed that 6 of the horizontal metal beams have almost rusted completely into. This is the beam inside the sleeve of the Top of the liner. It was mainly where the kids got in and out of the pool via the ladder where the water from the pool splashed and dripped from kids getting in and out. I knew it wouldnt be long before some of the beams busted completely, causing the pool to collapse.I found the beams from an individual seller on ebay and bought 6 beams for 50.00 dollars to replace them. For some reason I figured the liner would tare up before the metal parts......but that was not the case. I also picked up a few cans of rust preventive paint and spray painted the beams for extra coating, maybe this will make the beams last a little longer.In my opinion these pools are very high maintence. I also spent over 90.00 dollars on pool filters this summer, 30 dollars a pop for 6 filters, needs at least a new filter every week. Not to mention the HTC Shock from walmart I have to buy, usually takes a box every 2 weeks, 5 bags in a box for 16.00 at walmart. Oh, and the algea side that you need from walmart, 16.00 dollars a bottle, will need at least 2 bottles of this. And dont forget the 100 dollar water bill to fill it up lol. The pool cover that came with my pool was crap, it didn't even last through one winter! I ended up buying a new pool cover this month from amazon, cost me 50 bucks, havent put it on yet, but I hope its better than the one that came with the pool. So yeah, It has literally money-ed me to death every summer. BUT my kids.....they love it! And me and my husband also enjoy it as well. So I continue to endure the expense so we can cool off and have some fun on these hot summer days!
