First off, I don't know why anyone would order these adapters from any place other than Intex directly - the manufacturer. They sell them for about $2.50ea and you can get two, delivered anywhere for about $10.Second, while they do attach nicely, they do cause the rest of the hose and attachments to stick out and pull down on the protruding 1 1/4" black nozzle as another poster indicated. Finally, there is a design flaw in that the black gasket, on the end of the adapter that attaches to the plunger valve, is mated to a rim rim that is hollow. You can see this by just pulling the gasket back on that edge. Once assembled everything will work fine for a while. But after a few minutes, the gasket gets sucked into the hollow rim and causes air to enter the system resulting in a "buzzing" around the adapter and significantly reduced water flow - probably not good for the pump either. The rim really should be a solid flat surface for the gasket to mate to. This is probably caused by the a pump that is designed for 1 1/2" openings moving water through the a 1 1/4" adapter.I considered fixing this by filling the hollow edge with liquid resin available from a craft store. I ultimately just cut out the 1 1/4" inflow and outflow black tube and installed the strainer/nozzle assemblies that came with the pump, ditching the adapters altogether. Everything works fine and I have an 1 1/2" path through the whole system. An added benefit is that the assemblies now don't pull down on the pool liner as they are closer and have much more surface area in contact with the liner.

By Marc
After reading reviews of these adapters and other alternatives, I decided that instead of using these potentially non-airtight, non-watertight adapters, and restricting the intake/outlet flow of my new Intex 635T pump to a size smaller than for which it was designed, I'd just enlarge the holes in the side of my pool to be the right size for the new larger pump hose fittings. This means cutting out the smaller protruding black hose and the black backing that made a 1.00 inch hole in the side of my pool, to be a large 2.75 inch hole that is manufactured into the sides of newer pools. Nerve-racking, but here's what you do: The pool should be drained to a level at least below the two pump holes in the side (or empty is OK too). Take the black gasket that from the new hose pump hose assembly that will be installed against the inside of the pool - the center of this gasket represents the 2.75 inch hole that needs to be cut into the side of the pool so that the new hose fittings will, well... fit. Place the gasket against the side of the pool centered around the original 1.00 inch hole (inside the pool, or outside around the protruding black tube, either should work). Use a Sharpie to trace around the inside edge of the gasket to be the template of where the 2.75 inch hole that needs to be cut. Then use an Exacto knife to cut out the 2.75 inch hole where you drew the template - from what others have said, cut the hole the tiniest bit larger than the template hole you created (or on the outside of your template line) - if the hole is too small, the pool siding will bunch up and you will have leaks - the gasket is like 1/4-inch wide, so the hole can be a tiny bit too big since you have a 0.25 inch leeway. Be sure to take your time with this hole cutting - you don't want to be in a rush here! Once the 2.75 inch holes are cut, you should be good to go and install the hoses per instructions included with your new purchase. I did this and it worked for me - not one drop of water has leaked (of course I did this just 5 hours ago, so we'll see how this holds up over time).

By whitey anderson
if you are getting these adapters you need the plunger valves as well to keep them from being weighted down and slipping off. the plungers also keep the gaskets in the adapters from deforming. unfortunately most of the sellers on amazon who sell the larger intex pumps take the plungers out of the box so they can sell them on the side.once you have the plungers the adapters work as they should.http://www.amazon.com/Plunger-Valve-Intex-Above-Ground/dp/B000SPOZ5I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1239171119&sr=1-1
