By Robert Cook`
I purchased this not as a feature piece but as a PH increaser for my pool. My alkalinity is high which I lower with Muriatic Acid the bring the PH back up with the fountain. The PH rises but the alkalinity doesn't. As for the fountain it works well. It isn't a conversation starter as far as looks but it does put out a nice fountain effect. The sound is relaxing but can get overwhelming. It is easy just to bend the fountain under the water to stop the noise.

By Rachel
With outside temperatures reaching 102 - 108F our water temperature went to 94 Deg F and the kids stopped getting into the pool. We have a 17' above ground sofpool so I had to get 2" adapter ($1.30) and a 2" x 1.5" bushing ($1.92) from Lowes to get this to fit our pool fitting. Glued the 2 lowes fittings together and installed in minutes. In 3 hours the temp went to 91 and by the next morning the water temperature was 88F. The kids are now back in the pool for hours everyday and they enjoy playing in the fountain which is easily adjustible. Another nice feature is that it stays by the side of the pool and doesn't interfere with the swimming space like some other aerators that float in the middle.

By slinkywizard
I've tried a number of different fountain products and also a pool chiller. The SEC385 by Splash-A-Round is by far the best solution for 1) cooling down your pool, 2) aesthetics, and 3) a fun water feature for kids. The fountain sets up in under 5 minutes, can be adjusted to spray at almost any angle or in any direction, and it doesn't break. The height of the spray is easy to adjust as well.First some facts: I have three SEC 385's and two SEC 479's (same company, almost identical product, but flower effect spray) hooked up in the pool. The in-ground pool is 25,000 gallons, 2 HP main pump with 3/4 HP booster pump for the return inlet. The pool has 1 return and 4 additional inlets. A pool fountain is hooked up to the return and to each inlet. The fountain that is hooked up to the pool return inlet can shoot over 20 feet in the air when the booster pump is engaged. With just the main pool pump running, no booster bump, the fountains can shoot roughly 7 feet high on the maximum height setting. The closer the inlet is to the pool pump, the higher the fountain spray. These fountains are beautiful, but the main reason I bought them is to cool the pool down. I live near Houston, TX. I'm writing this on 8/16/11. Each of the past 15 days has been over 100 degrees and the pool has no shade. By running the pool fountains each day from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. the pool has ranged in temperature from 84 degrees (at 10 in the morning) to 89 degrees in the late afternoon. Last summer (not as hot) without the fountains the pool temp was in the mid 90's, too hot to swim.I've tried running the fountains at all times of the day to measure the cooling effect. Despite controversy I've read over dew points in humid climates, if you want to cool your pool down, the maximum cooling effect comes from running the fountains at night.Prior to ordering this set of fountains I have tried other fountains (which broke) and a pool chiller (also broke). The pool chiller can work, but with installation it's a $2,700 solution to a hot pool. Ordering 5 of the SEC 385 fountains is a $100-$120 solution, and it also doesn't cost anything extra in energy to run. Plus it is beautiful to look at and listen to.Sorry if this review sounds like an ad. I've just tried so many things that haven't worked that I'm thrilled to have finally found an economical and effective way to cool down the pool. The only downside of this product is that aerating your pool will raise the PH slightly (something to do with expelling carbonic acid when the fountains are running), so this requires occasionally adding some muriatic acid to bring the pool's PH level back down.
