This item does what it says it will do. The initial startup was somewhat difficult simply due to having to go to the store and get 160 pounds of salt. After that, it's very easy to use. It gives the pool water a nice soft feeling. It has also kept the pool water completely clear without the addition of ANY chemicals. I don't need to shock it or add Ph. I test the water every other day and the levels are perfect. My two daughters have stated that they like our pool more than their cousins (exact same pool) because ours doesn't burn their eyes. They ahve swam in our pool for hours and their eyes aren't red. The next day they swam at their cousins for a couple of hours and their eyes were red and hurt.I would recommend that the small "cone" filter that comes with this unit be checked every other day if not every day to keep the water flow strong.The unit is very easy to install and would highly recommend it for any above ground pool owner.

This is my second year with this saltwater chlorinator. I had a difficult time last year with this and have found 2 things that have helped. Tip #1 - After adding the salt let the filter run for about 8 - 9 hours (or overnight), then get in the pool and agitate the water around (get a few kids in the pool to play around for a little bit). I found that even if waiting for the filter to run for 24 hours - the salt sinks to the bottom of the pool and doesn't get fully spread out in the water. After you "agitate" the water, then let the filter run for the rest of the 24 hours. You shouldn't get the "low salt" error then. Tip #2 - You may need to run the chlorinator for longer then the time noted in the instruction manual the first time. This year I ran it first for about 12 hours (I do use well water with no chlorine - so your time might vary). I kept running the chlorinator for 4- 5 hours and re-checking the chlorine level. Once I had it at the right level, then I used the recommended time in the manual. No green water this year like last year. The whole family loves the pool and no more headaches for me!!

We purchased this last summer and had some trouble with it. Water flow was too low on our Intex pool for this to work reliably. When it did work, the water had a wonderful feel to it. We bought a new pump this year with a higher flow and decided not to hook the salt water cholorinator back up because we had high electric bills with it last summer. Make sure you have a good enough water flow for this to work well, and expect your electric bill to go up.
